Hoops face £11m Bar bill (THE SUN)

Joey Barton
COUGH UP ... Barton could be hit with £280,000 fine

QPR will have to cough up £11million if they want to boot out bad-boy Joey Barton.

The Hoops believed they could get rid of the midfielder for nothing on the grounds of gross misconduct after his 12-game ban.
But getting sent off is not deemed a breach of contract as any player can get red-carded at any time in any game.
Rangers took legal advice but were told it would be very difficult to make a gross misconduct charge stick over the sending off at Manchester City on the final day of the season.
Barton, 29, earns £70,000 a week and with three years left on his contract that works out at about £11m.
Selling Barton in the summer has also been ruled out as no club would be willing to pay for a player who is not available until November.
But Rangers are ready to hit Barton in the pocket. The maximum clubs are allowed to fine players is two weeks’ wages but Rangers will argue each of the two violent conduct charges should be punished separately.
That would bring the fine up to a staggering £280,000.
