AN FA Cup final programme featuring Manchester United has sold for a world record £23,500.
The official match card, held together by Sellotape, was issued for the 1909 final between United and Bristol City, played at the old Crystal Palace stadium.
On the day it cost one old penny.
The previous record for a football programme was the £21,850 paid for the 1889 FA Cup final issue, though that was set back in 2006.
Sotheby’s auctioneer Graham Budd confirmed that the historic document had been bought by a British collector.
He said: "There was some discussion it might go overseas but it did not in the end.
"It is extremely scarce and the first time that one has ever been offered at auction."
The game played on April 24, 1909, ended in a 1-0 victory for United in front of 71,401 fans with Sandy Turnbull scoring United’s match wnner.
Although both clubs now play in red shirts they sported a different look for this game.
Bristol City were wearing blue shirts while United had white shirts carrying a red V and, as the programme confirms, both clubs wore "white knickers".
It was the first time that the Red Devils had won the world’s most famous cup competition and was one of 10 FA Cup finals played at Crystal Palace’s former home, now the site of the National Sports Centre.
