THOUSANDS of jubilant Chelsea fans lined the streets yesterday to salute the new champions of Europe.
They cheered, waved flags and blew horns as the Blues celebrated their Champions League triumph with an open-top bus parade.
Some supporters even scaled rooftops, lamp-posts, traffic lights and bus shelters for a better view of their heroes and the cherished trophy.
The bus weaved through streets near their Stamford Bridge ground.
The fans were delirious after Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in the German side’s own stadium on Saturday.
Striker Didier Drogba netted the winning spot kick as the London side won a nail-biting penalty shootout 4-3 after the final had ended 1-1.
Frank Lampard, who captained the side in the absence of suspended John Terry, told fans yesterday: “Chelsea are the best club in the world.”
Fan Alan Brown, 52, of Hemel Hempstead, Herts, echoed the thoughts of all the supporters when he said: “It’s happy days. It’s just amazing.”
Several players even had to be woken up at the poolside to board their flight home, staff said.
“A few didn’t bother going to bed and slept on loungers - it was a crazy night.”
An onlooker said: “The players kept the party going all night. They were still swimming as the sun came up.”
As the team left the hotel, John Terry carried the trophy while Mr Abramovich said: “It was a great party!”
We won't mention the score
DAVID Cameron punched the air in triumph as he watched Chelsea’s dramatic win with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
As Didier Drogba’s penalty went in, Mrs Merkel’s translator shouted “Scheisse!” Not knowing the German for “sh*t”, President Barack Obama said: “Scheisse? What’s that mean?”
World leaders broke off from G8 summit talks at Camp David in the US to catch the penalties on TV. The PM said: “President Obama asked, ‘Are you going to watch too?’ I said, ‘Well, what’s the point? We never win’.
“To watch a penalty shoot-out with the Chancellor that you win was quite a treat.”
Cameron and soccer-mad Merkel watched Germany boot England out of the 2010 World Cup during the Toronto G8.
Battersea bid gets Yank-ed
CHELSEA will not be moving to the site of Battersea Power Station — after complaints from the American Embassy.
The Blues put in a bid to buy the site two weeks ago.
But diplomats deemed the possibility of 50,000 football fans walking past their planned £650million embassy — to be built just a mile away — an “unacceptable” security risk.
It's a kick in the
Balotellis for miffed Mario
MAN City’s Mario Balotelli was among those GUTTED that the Germans lost. The Italian striker, 22, took to Twitter to declare: “Chelsea champions of world. No thanks.”
Telly’s James Argent also rooted for Bayern Munich.
The TOWIE star — a lifelong fan of the Blues’ London rivals Spurs — tweeted: “Much as I wanted an English team to win the Champions League this is a real kick in my veneers.”
His dig came despite Louis Saha — who plays for Tottenham — hailing the thrilling victory as “magic”. The winger insisted: “Bravo Chelsea.”
His salute was echoed by Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere who said: “Every Englishman should be proud of Chelsea — even Arsenal and Spurs fans.”
