Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes says it was always going to be difficult playing Mainz yesterday after a 0-0 draw all-but ended their hopes of winning the Bundesliga this season.
League leaders Borussia Dortmund can clinch the title with just one win from their last three games and Heynckes says last Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to the Westphalians and the looming Champions League semi-final had an impact on yesterday's stalemate.
"We have got to recognise what situation we were in coming into this match," he said. "It was after the Dortmund game and before the Real (Madrid) game. Tuesday's game is obviously in the back of the players' minds. Therefore, it was very difficult psychologically for today's game. From tomorrow, we will focus on Real Madrid."
Tuesday's game at the Allianz Arena is now Bayern's biggest of the season and their midfielderBastian Schweinsteiger hopes his side will have come to terms with their disappointment in probably missing out on the Bundesliga title by keeping their dream alive of reaching the Champions League final on their home pitch.
"It all depends on our mentality," he told Sky television. "I hope that we can show the mentality which epitomises FC Bayern."
