KYLE WALKER scored a free-kick that David Beckham would be proud of as Tottenham comfortably beat woeful Blackburn.
Rovers defended relatively well but failed to register a shot in the entire game!
Rafael van der Vaart put Spurs on their way with a close-range finish that was cleared after it had crossed the line and the goal was rightly given.
The game was meandering towards an uninspired Spurs win until Walker stepped up to fire home a sensational set-piece with 15 minutes to play.
The result moves Harry Redknapp’s men up to fourth while Steve Kean’s side look likely for the drop as they sit three points from safety with two games to play.
The home side quickly took full control and Sandro's long-range effort on nine minutes came back off the crossbar with former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson well beaten.
Redknapp’s side continued to dominate possession and worked the ball well down both flanks but the final ball was lacking on almost every occasion.
They finally got it right in the 22nd minute as Lennon’s cross was met by the head of Gareth Bale, his effort bouncing off the crossbar and into the feet of Van der Vaart who tapped home from close range.
Robinson showed quick reactions to close down Danny Rose as the young full-back burst through from the left side of the area after a neat interchange with Modric.
Gael Givet then cleared a Van der Vaart free-kick with Spurs again building up a head of steam in search of their second goal.
It almost came from the resulting corner as captain William Gallas glanced a header onto the crossbar, which came to Blackburn’s rescue once again.
Modric dragged a shot wide on the hour and Bale followed suit moments later after a quick counter-attack caught Rovers short at the back.
Blackburn striker Yakubu was becoming a very isolated figure as the rest of Kean’s side worked to close Spurs down and the Nigerian was hauled off with 15 minutes to play.
Shortly after it was all over as Walker stepped up to add the only bit of quality to a drab afternoon with a world-class free-kick from 30 yards to double the lead.
With Brad Friedel having the quietest afternoon he’ll ever have, the points were safely in the bag putting Tottenham in the box seat to finish in the top four.
