NANI has blasted “careless” Manchester United and insisted the players should hang their heads in shame if they fail to win the Premier League.
While boss Alex Ferguson says defeat at the Etihad tomorrow will hand the title to Manchester City.
Roberto Mancini’s men had fallen eight points behind United.
But City will go top on goal difference, with two games left, if they beat their rivals.
And United winger Nani admitted: “We’ve been careless in recent games and only have ourselves to blame for being in this position. We should have been going to City with an unassailable lead.
“But, instead, we are facing a very difficult game with everything at stake.
“Shame on us. There is no excuse.
“A year without a title for a club like Manchester United would be a very bad year for everyone at the club. It would be a disaster.”
City still have to travel to Newcastle and host QPR, who are battling to stay up, on the final day.
But Fergie, who could end the season with no silverware, fears United will not get another chance to reclaim top spot.
The Old Trafford chief said: “If City win on Monday they probably would win it from there, yes.
“Even though they have got to go to Newcastle, I think they’d have a great chance. No doubt about that. Two games to go. A home and an away game.
“If we won, we’d be strong favourites.
“A draw, we’d be favourites — we’d have to be happy with that. But we won’t be talking about going there not to lose.”
The clash will be shown to a worldwide TV audience of 650million — the biggest in Premier League history.
Ferguson added: “There are 203 countries going to watch it — it creates a certain occasion and we want to represent ourselves in the right way.”
