ALEX FERGUSON was left cursing his side's defending after Everton grabbed a point at Old Trafford.
Manchester United had led 3-1 and 4-2 as they looked for three points to crank up the heat on title rivals City.
But the Toffees refused to roll over and grabbed two goals in the last seven minutes to leave Ferguson fuming.
The United boss said: “It was an absolute giveaway. We needed to see the game out.
“It was a travesty — the football we played was fantastic.
"We scored some great goals and to give away four goals at Old Trafford, I couldn’t believe it.
“They were defensive lapses, their goals were soft. We created goals by really good football — they got their goals easily.
“Today was a bad performance. Recently we’ve defended very well.”
In contrast, opposite number David Moyes was thrilled by his side’s response to last week’s FA Cup semi-final defeat against local rivals Liverpool.
Moyes said: “It was absolutely brilliant, the effort they put in.
“We came here to win the game because we’ve felt hard done by lately — and the players didn’t half put a show on today.
“I’ve only ever gone into any game to try to win it but the emphasis was big today.
“We lost a big game last week and today was a chance, in another big game, to stop people thinking our season is over.
“I don’t think at any time we deserved to be two down. We knew it would be a gung-ho game and the finishing, the goals we scored were very good.”
