Champions lead Barclays Premier League by five points once more
Manchester United 4-0 Aston Villa
Manchester United restablished their five-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League thanks to a comfortable victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
United took an early lead when Ashley Young was fouled in the penalty area and Wayne Rooney scored from the spot, and Danny Welbeck slid in to make it 2-0 just before half-time.
Villa keeper Shay Given made a string of fine saves to keep the score down and Emile Heskey brought a good stop from David de Gea at the other end, but Rooney swept in a third with 17 minutes remaining.
Nani came off the bench to wrap it up in stoppage time, the Portuguese firing in Jonny Evans' pass for the rampant League leaders.
