Bayern Munich's players will be given additional time to get over their UEFA Champions League final disappointment before linking up with the Germany squad. Germany coach Joachim Low has included eight Bayern players in his provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2012, the majority of whom are training in the south of France, but they will not be put under pressure to arrive before the weekend as initially planned.
"The tendency is now going towards varying things a little to give them a bit of breathing space," the national team's general manager Oliver Bierhoff said. "But they should all be here by Saturday or Sunday at the latest."
Bierhoff says he will leave the decision to the players individually when they feel ready to put the Champions League behind them and turn their attention to Euro 2012. However, he does not expect any of them to have fully come to terms with finishing as runners-up in three competitions this season ahead of Friday's friendly match against Basel.
"There probably won't be any Bayern player in Basel," he said in Kicker magazine. "The players who have already been in our training camp should be given a chance there."
