The New York Rangers said that the winger will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.
Gaborik played all 82 games during the regular season and scored 41 goals. He also played in all 20 playoff games and had five goals, going through an eight-game drought after scoring in the opener against the Ottawa Senators.
He had one goal in the Eastern Conference final, when he threw the puck in front of the net and New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur fumbled it and knocked it in.
A report out of Slovakia said the surgery could sideline him for five to six months.
Meanwhile, Rangers prospect Mats Zuccarello, linked to a possible signing in the Kontinental Hockey League, sounds like he's leaving the team.
He went on Twitter to say goodbye to Rangers fans and teammates.
"Nyr fans!!" he tweeted. "its been amazing playing in front of u guys! Thanks! Im gonna miss u! Ur the best! Thanks rangers 4 2 good years."
He had told reporters last week that he didn't want to play under another two-way contract.
Bruins signings
The Boston Bruins signed forward Daniel Paille to a three-year, $3.9 million contract.
Chris Bourque, acquired from the Washington Capitals last week, signed a two-year deal. The second year of the deal is a one-way contract, meaning he'd get the same $550,000 if he's in the NHL or the minor leagues.
He's the son of Bruins legend Ray Bourque.
Blackhawks sign draft pick
The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a three-year entry-level deal with defenseman Adam Clendening.
Clendening, 19, shared the lead among Hockey East defensemen with 33 points in 38 games with Boston University. He won a gold medal with the USA at the 2009 and 2010 world under-18 championships.
The Blackhawks drafted him in the second round last year.
