Bellamy: I’m in Team GB (THE SUN)

Craig Bellamy
COE-BREAKER ... Liverpool ace Bellamy
Published: 03rd June 2012

CRAIG BELLAMY broke an Olympic code of silence to reveal he is in Stuart Pearce’s Great Britain squad for London 2012.

The Liverpool striker, 32, will lead the line for Team GB next month as one of three over-aged players.
Speaking at a behind-closed-doors event in Singapore, Bellamy said: “I am in the Olympic squad — but I was supposed to keep it quiet.
“It’s a different challenge. I had a difficult season with Liverpool but the Olympics is a one-off.”
Bellamy has earned 69 caps for Wales but scored just nine times for the Kop last season.
His career has been dogged by controversy, most notably in 2007 when he confronted ex-Reds team-mate John Arne Riise with a golf club on a team bonding trip in Portugal.
Two years later, when with Manchester City, he clashed with a pitch invader during Manchester United’s 4-3 win at Old Trafford.
Pearce is set to name his 18-man squad later this week with veterans Ryan Giggs, Joe Cole and David Beckham all vying to join Bellamy.
