ANDY CARROLL is set to be unleashed against Sweden tonight.
England boss Roy Hodgson will pair the Liverpool hitman with Danny Welbeck up front.
And that means disappointment for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will drop to the bench.
Hodgson said: “The things we work on in training should allow us to exploit weakness in any team.”
Six of the last seven goals conceded by Sweden have been headers.
And Hodgson added: “In all the clubs I’ve worked at, I have always done a lot of work on players getting in crossing situations and movement for crosses.
“Let’s hope the message we are trying to put across will help us in that area.
“Sweden are very compact centrally. Getting down the wings and in behind them in the wide areas will be an important facet of our play.”
Carroll and Manchester United hitman Welbeck have just 10 international caps between them but Hodgson believes the two big men can cause problems in the air.
Joleon Lescott’s opening goal in the 1-1 draw with France came from Steven Gerrard’s free-kick and England will pose a threat from dead-ball situations.
Hodgson said: “We all agree set-pieces are very important. We scored a fantastic goal against France from one.”
Left-back Ashley Cole came through training last night despite a sore ankle.
ENGLAND (probable): Hart; Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole; Milner, Parker, Gerrard, Young; Carroll, Welbeck.
