Uefa has begun disciplinary proceedings against Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner after he celebrated a goal by revealing the logo of a betting company on his underpants.
The Arsenal man, 24, scored twice against Portugal, but could not prevent his team slipping to a 3-2 defeat.
After his second goal, Bendtner lowered his shorts to reveal the logo.
Uefa has investigated the matter and their Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Monday.
We have spoken to the player and he will not play in those underpants against Germany on Sunday
Danish FA statement
The European football body said in a statement: "Uefa has today announced that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Denmark's Nicklas Bendtner for improper conduct (Law 4 of the Laws of the Game) at the Uefa Euro 2012 Group B match against Portugal in Lviv on Wednesday, 13 June.
"The Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with this case on Monday."
The Danish Football Association has already dealt with the matter as it has an exclusive deal with another company.
"We have spoken to the player and he will not play in those underpants against Germany on Sunday," claimed a statement from the Danish FA.
The striker has pleaded his innocence, however, claiming he was not sure of the rules.
Bendtner said: "It is just a pair of lucky boxer shorts that I used in the first game as well and have used before the tournament.
"I didn't know I was breaking any rules but I am aware of that now."
Sponsors pay millions to be associated with the European Championship and governing body Uefa has strict rules preventing ambush marketing.
The company which the former Sunderland loanee was advertising on the waistband of his underwear said no money had exchanged hands and the underpants have been sent to several other unnamed players.
Denmark, who will play Germany in their final Group B game, need at least a point, probably all three, to reach the quarter-finals.
