Gerro hails fans

STEVEN GERRARD heaped praise on Liverpool AND Manchester United fans at an emotional Anfield.

Liverpool hosted their bitterest rivals in their first home match since the release of the independent report into the Hillsborough disaster, which cleared their fans of any blame for the 96 deaths in April 1989.
Fears that supporters would spoil a day of tributes to the victims were unfounded as United fans joined the Kop in respecting the occasion.
Liverpool skipper Gerro said: “There was a lot said about supporters on both sides behaving — and credit to them both, they were fantastic.”
Rival bosses Brendan Rodgers and Alex Ferguson joined in the praise. Fergie said: “Liverpool did a fantastic job, the fans were terrific and I don’t think there can be any complaint on that part.
“It was a nice touch Bobby Charlton giving the bouquet to Ian Rush and it demonstrates these two clubs can do things with unity.”
Rodgers added: “As leading iconic clubs we have an obligation, morally and socially, to lead — and I think we did that.”
Merseyside Police tweeted: “Thanks to both sets of fans for respecting the occasion. The vast majority behaved impeccably and did their clubs proud.”
