BRADLEY WIGGINS all but sealed an historic victory in the Tour de France after winning the stage 19 time trial.
The British hero finished ahead of Sky team-mate Chris Froome to stretch his overall lead to three minutes and 21 seconds.
And that means Wiggins just needs to get through tomorrow’s 120-kilometre ride from Rambouillet to the Champs-Elysees in Paris to become the first British rider to ever win the Tour.
The Londoner began the 53.5km time trial from Bonneval to Chartres with an advantage of 2min 5secs over fellow Brit Froome.
And Wiggins was in immense form as he romped home in 1.04:13 — 1min 16secs ahead of Froome.
Only a crash tomorrow can now prevent the three-time Olympic champion from winning the Tour as the final stage is effectively a procession to the finish.
Wiggins, 32, said: "It‘s what I wanted to do, I wanted to go out with a bang, the Tour‘s not over until now.
"It‘s what I do best, I came and looked at the course in March and I wanted to go out with a bang and felt fantastic today.
“In the first pedal stroke in the warm-up, I know if I‘m on it or not and today I knew I was on a good one.
“I was thinking of my wife, children, grandfather, nan with about 20 kilometres to go.
"It sounds cheesy, but your whole life is for this and the reason I got into cycling as a kid was today.”
Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford added: "It is a very proud moment.
"Bar anything silly we can start thinking about winning this race now. This is a fantastic team and I am very proud right now.
"I would never have said we could do it if I didn't believe that.
"We had done our homework, we knew what Bradley was capable of and what the British team is capable of.
"Today is all about Bradley and what a fantastic champion."
