WRECKER-IN-CHIEF: Vinay Kumar, who picked up eight wickets, celebrates after dismissing Delhi’s Yogesh Nagar.
NEW DELHI: T.P. Singh’s patience paid off as he scored his first century in the Ranji Trophy after coming back from the fold of the Indian Cricket League (ICL). Apart from proving his worth, the 31-year-old helped Railways reach a decent total of 238 for four on the first day of its Super League match against Himachal Pradesh.
The pitch at the Karnail Singh Stadium promised runs for the batsmen and assistance for the spinners and Railways skipper Murali Kartik did not hesitate to bat first.
T.P. Singh’s knock contained 12 boundaries and four sixes.
He was out in the 88th over when he mistimed Sarandeep to Bhavin Thaker at covers and was involved in a 130-run partnership with Yere Goud.
Vinay breathes fire
In another match, R. Vinay Kumar bowled the spell of his life to wreck Delhi on a helpful surface at the Roshanara Club ground here. Vinay claimed eight wickets as Delhi was bowled out for 154 and Karnataka finished the opening day at 91 for two in the Super League match.
After an incisive spell of 10-6-10-3, Vinay returned to polish off the Delhi innings with a wonderful show of 11.4-5-22-5. Playing and missing was the order of the day as Vinay created havoc in the middle.
