Korea Republic sealed top spot in Group B with a goalless draw against England in Coquimbo which saw both sides fail to create many chances of note. The Three Lions face a wait until Sunday evening to see if they will be one of the best third-placed sides to progress to the Round of 16.
England controlled the early stages with a period of possession, but they failed to penetrate the Taeguk backline. Three Lions captain Tom Davies fired a first half free kick he had earned himself into the wall in an opening period of limited opportunities.
Korea Republic, shorn of star No10 Lee Seungwoo, one of six changes to their starting XI in their previous pool game against Brazil, looked happy to soak up the limited spells of England pressure.
England began to assert themselves a touch more in the closing stages, with Chris Willock shooting wide, cutting inside onto his right foot. Kaylen Hinds then hit straight at Lee Joonseo in the Korean goal, before substitute Kazaiah Sterling was denied by the Taeguk stopper after hesitation in the Korean defence.
The game finished goalless though, and Korea Republic will stay in the region, their Round of 16 match taking place on Wednesday in La Serena, against a third placed side from either of Groups A, C or D while England will be keeping a watchful eye on results over the coming days - hoping to seal a knockout spot as one of the best third-placed sides.
