Germany forward Thomas Muller says Bayern Munich proved they still have the hunger to win a historic fourth successive German Bundesliga title after their emphatic start to the season.
The 25-year-old Muller netted twice in Bayern's 5-0 rout of Hamburg on Friday night when Pep Guardiola's Bavarian giants kicked off the new campaign in impressive style. Having won the league the last three years, Bayern are bidding to become the first team to win the Bundesliga four times in a row.
Having won the treble of UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2013, Bayern have the hunger for more silverware, according to Muller. "It was a super performance and despite the success of the previous seasons, we showed we still have the hunger and that we'll keep pushing, even when we're 3-0 up," the FIFA World Cup™ winner said.
"We want to maintain this mentality and we want to be champions again, a fact we underlined against Hamburg. We want the other clubs in Germany to know that we're not just here for fun."
Bayern dominated Hamburg by creating 16 chances while the visitors failed to produce a single shot on goal in reply. New signings Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa both impressed on their Bundesliga debuts for Bayern, while the latter netted Munich's fifth goal with a superb left-footed strike as Robert Lewandowski and Medhi Benatia also scored.
"When you start the season like that, it's a sign. We wanted to set things straight for the other teams as well," added Bayern's Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
