Naby Bangoura's goal earned Guinea a point in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup's first game, after England had taken the lead through a Kaylen Hinds header. Marcus Edwards had earlier earned, and then missed, a first-half penalty, but the Guinean No10's strike meant the points were shared in Group B's opener.
Edwards was a constant threat to the Guinean defence, and it was a piece of skill from the Tottenham Hotspur youngster that saw England earn a penalty. The No10 jinked inside the Guinean penalty area, and was brought down by a late challenge from the sliding Fode Camara. Edwards himself stepped up, but Moussa Camara got down low to deny the playmaker.
A piece of superb goalkeeping from Edwards' club team-mate Alfie Whiteman helped the No10 from further ruing his miss, denying Ives Camara who had sprinted clear of the Three Lions' defence. Minutes later England were ahead.
It was a combination between a pair from Tottenham's close rivals Arsenal that redeemed Edwards in the second half. Chris Willock produced an incisive cross, which was met by Kaylen Hinds - the No9 nodding past the helpless Camara.
It was to be Bangoura who would have the final say though, with the Guinea forward latching onto a Jules Keita through ball and finishing smartly.
The day's second game in Coquimbo sees three-time champions Brazil take on Korea Republic, with England facing A Seleção in their next match on Tuesday before Guinea take on the Asian side.
