Chelsea 2 Manchester United 3 (THE SUN)

HAV-A-GO HERO ... Javier Hernandez celebrates after scoring a controversial late winner for United

JAVIER HERNANDEZ struck the winner that saw Manchester United down nine-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

But the match will be remembered for a controversial second red card as much as the Mexican’s offside winner on 75 minutes.
Referee Mark Clattenburg had already given Branislav Ivanovic his marching orders for a professional foul when he wrongly adjudged Fernando Torres to have dived on 68 minutes.
It was harsh on the Blues, who had dragged their way back into the match after United had raced into a 2-0 lead in the space of 12 minutes.
David Luiz opened the scoring on four minutes by steering the ball into his own net following a Van Persie shot.
The Dutchman then doubled the lead, firing home from inside the area after good work from Antonio Valencia down the right.
Chelsea did not give up however, with Juan Mata’s stunning free-kick on 44 minutes hauling them back into the match.
The Blues then drew level eight minutes into the second half as Ramires headed home, but any momentum was lost within the space of six minutes with the two red cards.
Last man Ivanovic was sent off for pulling back Ashley Young, before Torres was shown a second yellow for a dive.
The fact he was fouled by Jonny Evans left Blues fans frustrated, with their anger doubled on 75 minutes when Hernandez put United back in front from an offside position.

While Young opted against wearing the Kick It Out t-shirt in the warm-up, the pre-match handshakes were observed by all including with Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole.
Those talking points were quickly irrelevant, with United racing to their lead.
It took less than four minutes, the Blues losing possession and Van Persie crashing a shot against the post, the ball rebounding in off the luckless Luiz..

Ivanovic was fortunate to escape a booking for clattering into Young before United struck again, Ferdinand this time the architect.
The defender was predictably booed as he ambled out of defence and found Rafael, who fed Antonio Valencia, with the winger’s low cross instantly swept home by Van Persie.

The European champions finally woke up midway through the half when Michael Carrick chopped down Ramires.
He should have been booked but Luiz almost punished him anyway with a brutal free-kick which David De Gea inexplicably elected to save with his legs before another unorthodox stop to keep out Gary Cahill’s header.

The goalkeeper could do nothing when Wayne Rooney needlessly upended Eden Hazard with a revenge tackle a minute from half-time — earning a booking — and Mata stepped up to curl a sumptuous free-kick into the corner.
Mata would have equalised moments later had De Gea not made amends for a horrendous clearance before Torres earned his first booking for a foul on Tom Cleverley.

But Chelsea needed only seven minutes of the second half to deservedly level as Mata took the game by the scruff of the neck.
After scuffing a right-foot shot, he showed sublime control to keep Oscar’s ball in play, allowing the Brazilian to cross again for Ramires to head home.
Hazard had two more sniffs before United got a grip.

And they were given a golden opportunity to snatch all three points as disaster struck for Chelsea when Ivanovic and Torres were both sent off in the space of six minutes.
Ivanovic could have no complaints, the right-back seeing red for bringing down Young, who had been played clean through by Van Persie.
Rooney fired the resultant free-kick just over before United replaced the ineffective Cleverley with Hernandez and Chelsea sent on Cesar Azpilicueta for Oscar.

They were about to bring on Daniel Sturridge for Torres but the striker joined Ivanovic in the dressing room when he was controversially shown a second yellow for diving when replays showed he had been caught by Evans.
Torres was furious, trudging off and berating the fourth official, who was then forced to keep Roberto Di Matteo and Alex Ferguson apart on the touchline.

Ryan Bertrand joined the fray instead of Sturridge but Chelsea faced an impossible task with nine men and Hernandez snatched what proved the winner 15 minutes from time from an offside position.
Petr Cech brilliantly tipped Van Persie’s shot onto the post but Rafael followed up and Hernandez turned the ball home.
Mikel was booked for his protest, Sturridge entered the fray and Valencia also saw yellow as well as wasting a chance to kill the contest.

Everton 2 Liverpool 2 (THE SUN)

KOP FLOP ... Luis Suarez celebrates Liverpool's opening goal by taking a tumble in front of Everton boss David Moyes
KOP FLOP ... Luis Suarez celebrates Liverpool's opening goal by taking a tumble in front of Everton boss David Moyes

LUIS SUAREZ got his revenge on David Moyes but it was Everton who had the last laugh in a frenetic Merseyside derby draw.

The Toffees boss had warned ref Andre Marriner to watch out for the Liverpool striker's theatrics in the build-up to the match.
But his words came back to haunt him when Suarez lashed the ball in off Leighton Baines for the Reds opener and celebrated by taking a tumble in front of Moyes.
The Uruguayan then doubled Liverpool's lead just six minutes later, flicking in Steven Gerrard's free-kick.
But Leon Osman and Steven Naismith got the hosts back on level terms before the break.
And Suarez had an injury-time goal wrongly ruled out for offside as the two sides were forced to share the spoils.

Liverpool fielded five derby debutants — Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom, Nuri Sahin, Suso and Joe Allen — with Everton having just two in Kevin Mirallas and Naismith.
And it was a frantic first 45 minutes — unleashed by the Reds’ opener after 14 minutes.

David Moyes: Luis Suarez celebration was great

EVERTON boss sees funny side of incident - but believes Liverpool striker could have been sent off
Steven Gerrard’s pass sent Jose Enrique, on his first start since October 2, racing down the left and although his cross flashed through the six-yard area it was collected by Suarez, whose drilled cross-shot return was deflected in by Baines.

His reaction was to race to the dug-out and dive full-length in front of Moyes.
Ironically, later in the half, it was one of Moyes’ own players Phil Neville who was booked for diving on the edge of Liverpool’s penalty area.

Brendan Rodgers: I'm bitterly disappointed

LIVERPOOL boss left angered after seeing late Luis Suarez goal disallowed in Merseyside derby
That prompted a swift retort from injured Reds defender Glen Johnson on Twitter who wrote: “Haha classic P Neville battering Luis for diving, then what does he get booked for?!
“Worst dive ever. Looked like someone tied his laces together while he weren’t looking.”

Six minutes later Osman’s slight trip on Sterling presented Gerrard with the chance to curl in a free-kick and Suarez’s deft header helped the ball past Tim Howard and into the far corner of the net.
But Everton have not forced their way into the top four this season on a wing and a prayer, and they produced an instant response.
When goalkeeper Brad Jones, still deputising for the recovering Jose Reina who was on the bench, could only punch a corner to the edge of the area, Osman controlled and volleyed home.

The game became even more open with Suarez shooting just wide before Marouane Fellaini, back from injury after two matches out, ran the ball out of play as he bore down on goal when teed up by Nikica Jelavic.
But the Toffees were soon back level when Fellaini’s cross was left by Martin Skrtel and Naismith nipped in front of Enrique to equalise from close range.
Everton poured forward with the excellent Mirallas marauding down the left against the inexperience of Wisdom and Sterling.

The Belgian had one shot turned away by Jones and another blocked by Skrtel after a brilliant turn took him past Wisdom, reluctant to make a challenge in the penalty area, while Seamus Coleman also blazed over.
After such a rousing 45 minutes, the second half failed to live up to those standards.
Everton suffered a blow when Mirallas failed to appear after the break and was replaced by Magaye Gueye while Rodgers made a tactical switch by bringing on Sebastian Coates, another derby debutant, and Jonjo Shelvey to go 3-4-1-2.

Chances continued to be created with Sterling clipping an excellent chance wide having been put through by Enrique while Jelavic just failed to connect in the six-yard box before heading Leighton Baines’ free-kick wide.
Suarez was fortunate to escape with a yellow card after standing on Sylvain Distin’s Achilles after the ball had gone, before Gerrard had a shot blocked by Phil Jagielka.
But there was late drama as Coates nodded down Gerrard's free-kick and Luis Suarez reacted to stab past Howard before the linesman incorrectly flagged for offside.
Everton: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Naismith (Oviedo 85), Osman, Neville, Mirallas (Gueye 46), Fellaini, Jelavic. Subs Not Used: Mucha, Hibbert, Heitinga, Hitzlsperger, Vellios.
